Not long after I moved to Berlin, I participated in an competition where 6 songwriters perform their songs in multiple rounds to see who wins at the end. The rounds are decided by the audience and the hosts.
A friend recommended this event to me and it sounded fun so I decided to try it.
It was only afterwards that I found out that the competition was gonna be a 1-on-1 format. And with each round, the decided winner would continue and the loser would be eliminated. This scared the hell out of me :D It sounded way more cut-throat and personal than what I had imagined it to be.

When I got there though, everyone was really friendly and we all had a nice chat with each other. What also made the event a lot more comfortable for me was that a couple of my friends came to cheer me on :)

Then came time to perform. I was first :P

I introduced myself with a song I wrote called “Nameless”. I guess they liked it, because I got to continue to finals!
Then for the final round, I performed my song “Freedom Flowers’ against 2 of the other finalists.

I guess they also liked that one, because I won the whole thing with that!

When they announced that I had won, I didn’t even realize it right away because they were speaking in German (which is not my first language)

Anyway, I met a lot of great people through this fun event, which turned out to be a lot less scary and serious than I thought it would be.
This definitely made for a memorable first month of officially living in Berlin :D
